Chambéry

Chambéry is the capital of the department and has been the historical capital of the Savoy region since the 13th century. It was founded at a crossroads of ancient routes through the Dauphiné, Burgundy, Switzerland, and Italy.

The first counts of Savoy settled into an existing fortress in 1285 and expanded it in the early-14th century to serve as a residence, seat of power and administration, and as stronghold for the House of Savoy.

Hautes Alpes (2)

The next hike starts from Saint Veran, "the village where the rooster pecks the stars", the highest village in France, at an altitude of 2,042 meters, and will bring us until the former copper mines

On the way back, short stop in Chateau-Queyras:

And here we are, back in Guillestre, for a last evening:

Thank you guys for those nice days!

Hautes Alpes (1)

 Bonjour !

Yes, it has been ages since the last trip, as for most of the people around the world. But during the summer, there have been a few weekends in the Alps.

The first one was in the part of France which is called Hautes-Alpes, to join Yannick and Aurélien for a few days, starting in Guillestre.

This is Briançon. At an altitude of 1,326 meters, it is the highest city in France. The historical centre is a strongly fortified town, built by Vauban to defend the region from Austrians in the 17th century.

Moving on even higher, we reach the Izoard Pass, 2,362 meters above sea level, with its lunar landscapes.
