MMG Ranch (4)

Good news of the day : our graze team found one of the missing pairs. They changed strategy : instead of looking for looking for a needle in a 75,000 acres haystack, they parked the trailer with the horses, and started driving all over the place, asking everybody if they had seen any cow. They went to the post office, the gas station... And eventually they found somebody who had seen a couple of cows close to the road a few miles away from there. And here were the cows, close to the fence, waiting to be picked up... They will probably have to go on like that next week, as the cows can be dozens of miles away from the ranch, at the end of the summer.

In the meantime, we took care of the replacement yearlings, that we had isolated from the rest of the herd on the previous day and practice cutting and rodeer with them (basically, cutting is the action of separating a cow from the rest of the herd, in order to move it to a separate pasture, or to doctor it, and rodeer is a way to drive them, with horses all around them in a circle, walking constantly).

Below, a few pictures taken from the mountains around the ranch :

And it is already the end of the week. And even the end of the season for the guest activity of the ranch. Part of the staff will be off until beginning of April. If everything's fine, I will be back then !
