Madeira (2)

Today, it is going to be difficult to escape from the rain. The island is covered with thick clouds, and storms, thunder and lightning are expected.

Here is the view on the Curral das Freiras, the Nuns' Valley, called like that because in the 16th century, 70 nuns feld the pirates who were attacking the island constantly, and relocated their settlement in a remote valley, isolated from the rest of the island.

Short break, because it is raining buckets now, in order to enjoy the local production of chestnuts.

And here is the village, a few hundreds meters below the view point:

Last day in Funchal, and it looks like it will also the sunniest one of the week. Therefore I head to the cable car who climbs up to Monte and after that to the botanical garden.

In front of the church, they are getting the sledges ready for the tourists (not me, sorry guys!)

And now, enjoy some of the treasures from the botanical garden:

Last walk in the streets of Funchal, where everything looks very different from the first day, thanks to the sun.

Bye bye Madeira, it was a real pleasure to spend the week here, I will probably be back in the future.
