Hey there,

On Thursday and Friday, more cattle driving, cutting, roping, branding, ear-tagging and doctoring (a few yearlings had bad eyes). You could call it a routine...

Yesterday, part of the crew left the ranch, in order to spend the week end in Reno, at the Californios. Janet, Colin and I have the ranch just for us. It gave us some free time to go hiking, and chase white-tailed deer and ground squirrels.

The last time I saw this wolf, one year ago, this wolf was frozen, all wrapped up in a plastic bag, at the rear of the truck, out on its way to the taxidermist after they had it killed close to the ranch.

What a day !

Cattle driving in the morning, with 100 yearlings to bring back to the ranch.
Then cutting, in order to isolate the 25 ones which had to be branded and have their ear tags changed.
And this afternoon roping, branding and ear tagging. We didn't manage to deal with the 25 cows, so the program should be pretty similar tomorrow.

Who knows, may be in a few years you will start harassing me because you will also want to be a cowboy during your holidays. That would really be fun !






Here is Shadow, enjoying his breakfast and the sunrise, while I wait for him to finish (and I can tell you that it is freezing cold at the moment, at 7am !)

Looks like spring has reached Montana, at last, we had an amazing weather during the whole day (I even succeeded in getting my face sunburnt, with a hat on). But the meadows still look like a swamp, or a lake.

At the end of the day, time to have a proper dinner and relax a bit before a good night, in order to be ready for the cattle gathering, branding and ear tagging day planned for tomorrow.

Time to leave you, it is 8:20pm, I should already be in my bed...

MMG Ranch

Howdy !

Back at the ranch, at last... One Kiwi (Colin) and one Frog, surrounded by a bunch of American guys. Just had a few minutes to make some pictures of my cabin (yes, just for me :) and of the view from my bed, yesterday, before it started raining, and it did not get any better today. So no picture of horses so far, I will introduce you to Shadow later this week.

Today, we spent hours and hours roping, and roping, on and on (more or less successfully, as far as I am concerned). My shoulder is already getting pretty stiff, and it was only the first day. Hope it will be better tomorrow (as usual...).

Salt Lake City

Here I am, back in Salt Lake City, on my way to my yearly Montana spring break.
7 more hours before I can collapse in a bed, and I am already starting to doze off. It reminds me Claire, 2 years ago, in the same plane (the picture is still here, as a piece of evidence !).

May 7th, 2011, the sun is shining, warm weather, probably the same thing in France. It was a good day to die...
