Nicaragua : from Ometepe island to Masaya

Short stop in Rivas, to buy some food on the market, and also to get a fresh orange juice, in order to start the day with a good shot of vitamins !

From there, the ferry brings people to Ometepe in one hour. The island is situated on Lake Nicaragua, which is 8600 square kilometers large. When you are on the boat or on the island it looks more like a sea than a lake. It seems that the time passes by more slowly here than in the rest of the country : almost no cars, everyone is using horse or cattle for transportation (which makes sense when you see the road...), animals everywhere, and of course smiling and friendly people, specially children.

The name of the island means "two mountains" because it was built by 2 volcanoes, Concepcion and Maderas. For the 3rd picture below, don´t worry for my camera, it is not covered with dirt, it just suddenly faced the attack of thousands of bugs...

For those who are fond of magpies, the only thing you need to do here if you want to make pictures is to have your breakfast. You will have to fight for your bread, rice or eggs, but this is really an unbelievable moment !

Back from the island, below, a few more volcano pictures, those ones are the Apoyo Lake, in Catarina, which is also famous for its potery :

Before reaching Granada, a last stop in Masaya, where the handicraft market is located in the old fortress of the town.
