Innsbruck

Time to leave Germany, and head towards Austria (stay focused, there will be quite a few border crossings during the next couple of weeks). The trip is supposed to take about 2 hours.

Until the border, the rain keeps on falling heavily, no improvement.
As soon as I enter Austria, the rain turns into snow, with huge flakes covering the road.
Fortunately, this time, I have a rental car equipped with winter tyres (it is mandatory in Germany), therefore no problem even if the road starts being a bit slippery. When I stop for a coffee, I am joined by the Swiss cross country team, whose van I overtook a few minutes ago.

Troubles appear when I leave the highway, and take the mountain road which leads to Innsbruck.
No problem for my car, but it does not seem to be the same thing for everyone. Three trucks are stopped in a turn, unable to drive any further. We are going to stay like that during about 2 hours, without moving even one meter forward, and then driving at about 5 - 10 km/h for the next 20 km.
I will hear 2 days later that the French team also got stucked in this giant traffic jam, but they decided to turn around and take another road, wiser than me, for sure...

The whole trip is actually going to take more than 6 hours, but I eventually reach the hotel safe and sound, and will spend the following morning visiting the beautiful historical center of the city. Definitely worth the trip...
