From Kaikoura to Nelson

In Kaikoura, another earthquake struck, in November 2016. The roads were severely damaged, and are either still closed or under heavy road works.
First hike of the trip, around the peninsula, to enjoy the scenery and see the seal colony.

That's the Albatross backpacker:

On the following day, it takes me more than 6 hours to get to Nelson (because of the closed road), including 4 hours under a very heavy rain.
About 2 hours after having left Kaikoura, I stopped for a quick break, and swallow a coffee and a hot dog. About 20 minutes later, I start feeling severely nauseated, and will be sick as hell all the way up to Nelson, which is a real pleasure when you have to drive, and when there are no options to stop for a pharmacy, or even a coffee house to have a short rest...

On the next day, I feel a lot better, what happened yesterday is just bad memories.
Time to head to Abel Tasman National Park, discover some of its inhabitants, and enjoy a very nice walk among giant ferns with a friendly couple from Nottingham.
