In Scotland, people say that there are only two possible weather forecasts in their country: either it is raining or it is about to rain.
During the 2 first days, it was "about to rain", and this morning it WAS raining, it tends to be true.
OK, let's be serious a second. This popular belief is not completely right, I would put it another way: either the sun is shining, or it is about to shine.
Yes, it is raining, but it never lasts very long, and then you get what you came for. This is probably thanks to the rain that Scotland gets the most incredible light on earth.
You might have to patient, but it is worth it, "the journey is the reward".
Dietary meal: vegetables and fresh fish ;)
Second piece of advise of the day: orientation while driving. No way you can use the sun in order to find out in which direction you're driving, it won't be there when you need it.
Don't either try to check the map, and spot the loch on the banks of which you stopped: wherever you stopped, there are a dozen lochs within a few miles, it won't help.
Just go on driving, wherever you go, the scenery will be amazing, forget about the bloody map.
As an alternative, you can try a roadmap such as "turn right after the 134th sheep, then left after the 421st sheep", but it might not be very efficient either.
Try the same formula as with the sheep, but using castles instead. They are about as numerous as the sheep, but move less quickly.
The part of the country you cross on your way to the Isle of Skye are the wild, rocky Highlands, around Loch Leven and Glen Coe, which were used as filming locations for both Braveheart and Highlander.
Do you know why the Scots invented their own word in order to name both the mountains and the hills (they call them "Ben")?
It is because the top is covered by fog all year long, noone was ever able to see it, therefore noone knows how high they are. ;)
The Scottish version of the end of the world is supposed to be John o' Groats, but Portnalong might also be a good challenger, you have the feeling that you will never get there alive.
Thank God they have a pub, at least I can have a pint (sorry, I mean a "paint") of cider tonight, even if I am not in the mood for haggis or battered black pudding tonight.
OK, we are on the Isle of Skye, and the hostel is the "Skyewalker", but this is not the Jedi knight I expected to find in the highlands...
They have an interesting contest at the moment, with dummies at the entrance of each house.
I
liked the the Toy Story Woody (with the "Andy" written on the sole of
the boot, everything lies in the small details), the William Wallace and
Gromit ones (total lack of respect, but pretty good), and my favorite
one (let's hope that it won't reflect the truth in 10 days...)
