Jersey (2)

You can see easily that Jersey is half way betwen UK and France: most of the people speak both languages, and half of the streets are named in French.
For instance, "Rue de la Pouclée et des Quatre Chemins, where my accommodation was, or my favorite one: "Mont Cochon". Yes, seriously...

In case you forget that Jersey (and Guernsey) are not part of UK, the bank notes help to refresh your memory: British pounds can be used on the Islands, but Jersey and Guernsey bank notes won't be accepted in UK. So I will have to spent carefully until my last Islander pounds before I reach Portsmouth. One of the consequences of this is that in front of most of the banks, you have 2 ATMs: one will deliver local pounds, and the other one British pounds. And sometimes the staff gets mixed up: in Jersey, I got Guernsey pounds in the middle of the British pounds I withdrew.

Then it is a long day hopping on and off buses all around the Western part of the island:

- the Corbière lighthouse

- La Rocco Tower

- the footpath around Grosnez Castle, with the former German guns and observation tower used during World War 2

- the War Tunnels, with a very interesting exhibition about life in Jersey during World War 2 (see next article for more details)

- the Samares Manor, and its botanical garden. In Provence, I failed to see lavender because it was too early , but here it is blooming

And then I decided that today was one of those days when dinner is going to cost more than the accommodation, with scallops and crab pasta. Yummy :))))
